Parabol AM (Art Magazine)

Parabol is an international magazine for contemporary art. The publication is biannually published in English. A curator devises each issue. Each curator’s task is to examine a contemporary phenomenon in pictures and words on the basis of artistic points of view. Parabol AM focuses on the representation of contemporary art in graphic space. The magazine sees itself as both a network and platform. …Its primary aim is to promote debate about contemporary art. Over several years, the total pattern created by all of the issues will result in a reflection of central spotlights of contemporary art production, like a two-dimensional exhibition.

Il faut is a collaborative platform for the visual art of Gwenneth Boelens and the writings of Nickel van Duijvenboden. Il faut is also the name of a corresponding irregular periodical, usually issued as a complement to a presentation. Both artists live and work in Amsterdam.

The Entire Business of Coming Closer at Klemm’s, Berlin, takes the precise observation and analysis of photography as a point of departure and develops it into three-dimensional installations, collages, performances, photography and video projections. In these works different methods of scientific fields, like archeology and philosophy, mix with the artist’s approach, retaining a certain openness. Boelens illustrates, for example, the dialectic relation between culture and nature, the relationship of the human body to space or the fragmentary character of memory and recognition. With a subtle pictorial language, without big gestures or ostentatious narration, she illuminates her objective very precisely.
